The silence is broken at least

Hi,

Let me start by thanking you for the overwhelming response we have got for Sach Ka Saamna. The response also translated to ratings. However, my happiness has got nothing to do with the ratings. Ratings matter to the channel. I am happy to see my country evolving. I was so moved while shooting each episode and i am so glad that there were so many who felt the same while watching it. This means that we are willing to break free from our pseudo approach to others. Double standards are dying. We cant have one rule for us and another one for someone else. As you watch other episodes unfold onscreen you will be pleasantly shocked and surprised to see that there are some people who will deserve a standing ovation not for what they have done but for the way they came forward, apologized and confessed. We all commit mistakes and we all hurt our close ones but how many of us accept it leave alone confessing and apologizing?

Though i am just the host of the show and i am not involved in any process right from the contestant selection to the making of questions yet i have believed in the show from day one. Some of us may think that the contestants come for money. I respect their way of thinking and would just like to say that not anyone has the courage to come and face the truth in front of the world even if the lure is money or publicity. To reveal truth about one's personal life is not easy. It hurts when people debate about the questions in the show related to their sexual lives and ignore all the other questions which revolve around more sensitive aspects of one's life. Are people voyeuristic or the contestants brazen? Mr Yusuf Husseins biggest moment was when he confessed about his mistake of being careless in the upbringing of his daughter (who is closest to him in this whole world). He broke down and so did his daughter. Every father and daughter in this country would relate to it but for a handful of people the only question that caught their fancy was about his sexual life. I leave it on your sensible minds to ponder over it.

Also i spoke to Smita Matai a few days back. It was one of the happiest moments of my life when she told me that everyone who walks up to her feels proud to have met her. People on the roads and in multiplexes where she has visited off late do not just recognize her but also acknowledge her courage and confidence. And more then that she and Tony(her husband) have come even more close since the episode was air. Isn't it a reflection of a growing, mature and positive India.

Anyway, i wish to also add that these are my personal views and by no standard are they better or superior to any one else's viewpoint. You can or cannot agree with the way i think. I respect everyone's viewpoint but all i hope is that we are progressive in our thinking.

Don't you think if nothing else at least the silence is broken? Its raining outside while i am writing this. Have to go for an interview. Time for me to face the truth. Keep smiling and keep spreading love.

Love
Rajeev

  1. Completely agree with you - it really takes a lot of courage to speak your heart out and let the world know the truth, share your darkest secrets in public, accept your guilt, confess your mistakes.

It's really heartening to see Indians maturing in this direction.

    Warm regards,

  11. Hi Rajeev,
Just finished watching your show tonight for the last episode of, Mr Dsuza( not sure how to spell the name right). Also saw your twitter feed inviting feedbacks, twitter has word limit hence writing in here. I think it’s a great show, you are hosting it at par with the US run of it, which incidentally I had been watching for couple of months. What amazes me most is most of participants tend to handle tougher questions rather gracefully as if its channel to vent out all there moral immoral, emotional hang-ups and they seem to get bold out on rather less strenuous ones, for instance in today’s episode the guy accepted fantasizing other women but was caught on theft on work questions, in my opinion it will be lot more difficult to accept the first one when friends and family are sitting right there, then of a theft , whichever will carry higher weight for redemptions, ditto with all previous episodes.
Its hearting to see people are accepting reality, India traditionally has kept everything hush hush, this series is good wake up call. I see the episode has a disclaimer running now about parental guidance, never mind about latest uproar by political brigades, infact pull one of those on your show, lets see how many of them will answer about their thefts
Good luck to this show and to you.

    Regards

  13. Hi Rajeev, 1st of all my compliments for ur new look. Its damn appealing. I've not seen any of ur serials but u had to carry a sad face all along in AAMIR role which u did brilliantly. That's a very good movie.

Now on to SKS, the show is new with its appeal and feel so it will be a success initially. I suggest u to tell Star TV to change the format a bit for maintaining the show's TRP. The prize money for a paricular level crossed should be assured. 1stly, Saare parivaar aur duniya ke saamne benaqaab hone ka kuchh to monetary benefit milna chahiye. 2ndly, from the audience point of view, when they see that the partcipant after being so courageous loses on just one mistake, the absence of reward-for-courage element reduces the interest of viewers. When one wins some amount at some level, more & more people would like to join the show and watch it. Janta unhe dekhkar khud ko jeetata mehsoos karti hai.

I have loads of things to confess to lot of people and perhaps that would make me feel a lot comfy... can you please help me?

  16. Hi I would just like to say that yesterday i saw your debate in News Hour at Times Now against Smriti Irani.....

i was highly impressed with the way you presented your points and how Mrs Tulsi was angry as she took your commenst personally....

the major point you made was all teh other television serials showing a dozen marriages of women and half a dozen kids should be screwed first and then any one has a right to pinpoint a finger at this show.....

india is full of hypocrites, the people who are now criticizing these shows woulkd be the first ones to go and see it..... and the other television celebs who are aginst it are n the fear that this is going to steal the lime light and therefore they want to ban this show.........

all the best and you are doing great work....

    ReplyDelete
  17. Just watched the debate on 'Sach Ka Saamna' on TV. Please don't be defensive about this. There'll be naysayers no matter what you do. People like Farooqi are no different from the Taliban, trying to make others live by their rules. Smriti is just plain hypocritical. She has some cheek after doing such regressive roles. She was one of the reasons I had stopped watching TV.

    ReplyDelete
  18. There are many reasons why this show needs to be banned.

1)First of all is the credibility of the polygraph machine on which the whole show is based upon. Here is a direct paragraph from wikipedia about it.

Despite claims of 90-95% reliability, critics charge that rather than a "test", the method amounts to an inherently unstandardizable interrogation technique whose accuracy cannot be established. A 1997 survey of 421 psychologists estimated the test's average accuracy at about 61%, a little better than chance.[25] Critics also argue that even given high estimates of the polygraph's accuracy a significant number of subjects (e.g. 10% given a 90% accuracy) will appear to be lying, and would unfairly suffer the consequences of "failing" the polygraph. In the 1998 Supreme Court case, United States v. Scheffer, the majority stated that "There is simply no consensus that polygraph evidence is reliable" and "Unlike other expert witnesses who testify about factual matters outside the jurors' knowledge, such as the analysis of fingerprints, ballistics, or DNA found at a crime scene, a polygraph expert can supply the jury only with another opinion..."[26] Also, in 2005 the 11th Circuit Court of Appeals stated that .[27] Charles Honts, a psychology professor at Boise State University, states that polygraph interrogations give a high rate of false positives on innocent people.

That explains why in India in only one case up till now it was used as evidence in the court.

The polygraph test is used in interrogation to obtain confession from the convicts not as evidence or even as proof like, we all know 26/11 attacks involved the hand of Pakistan but we have to spell it out from Kasab just to be 100% sure.
I know your disclaimer says the statements revealed by participants are not to be used by a third party, but it is as useless as a "Smoking is injurious to your health" on cigarette packets. In a program that reaches millions of people across India you cannot control transformation of the statement to the truth in people's perception by just a disclaimer on the bottom. You should be more responsible.

    Continued in next comment...

    ReplyDelete
  19. Continued from earlier comment..

2)The questions you ask in the test are mostly ambiguous questions about thoughts. Like you ask questions such as "did you ever think this..." or "did you ever think that..." for which the participant himself doesn't know the truth. He may have thought on one pressure occasion or he may have not. Those types of questions are never asked in actual interrogation. The type of questions usually involve physical certainities like "did you ever take drugs". With the type of questions you asked it boils down to 50% of credibility for polygraph machine, since the polygraph machine tests the unconscious part of mind (See the details of it in net) not conscious. So let us say you brought down a good minister on the show and asked him "Did you ever thought of swindling public's money?". What's the answer? He may have thought about it in some extremely pressurized situations previously or he may have thought about it in a light way, jokingly (if you understand what I say). For him the answer is certainly no. And polygraph test disproves that answer which is the most likely situation the ministers current reputation in society is destroyed. He will be argued about in parliament and may be he will never get elected again. So the thing is that you do not show any thing on television with putting just a disclaimer on it just as you would not show a girl stripping nude in public even if it happened.

    3) And lastly the whole point of a game show is destroyed in your show. In your show the quiz master already knows for which questions the participant said truth and for which he hesitates to tell the truth. So you can more or less control the how much a participant can go furthur in the show by just choosing the appropriate questions from them. Once the quiz master knows what the participant would answer most probably for the question he asked, it is not a fair game any more.

So, the bottom line is you do not go on copying every English show without thinking whether it is right or wrong.

  21. Hi. Rajeev. Good morning and the great wishes to your show "Sach Ka Saamna". Yesterday I saw your show on NDTV and I am surprized, why the people's want to stop the show. Before then I have never seen your show "Sach Ka Saamna", but after I saw the show on NDTV, I am the fan of your show (Because the people want to say truth). Some people's want to stop the show , beacuse of the reason 's of Money and Religon. I did'nt understand where is the money and religon, if someone want to say the truth. this is only the show based on truth and Yes one more thing If someone is not faithful for his own family, how can he faithful for the others. those people's who want to stop this show ask them rajeev, Are they true people's. Yes one more thing I heard in rajya sabha some polition's want to stop the show, these polition's reached to Rajya Sabha on the faith of we people's, Have they done all the commitments whatever they said before elections.... Ones again great wishes for the "Sach Ka Saamna" and it shuld continue...

  22. Hi Rajeev,

I just happened to see the debate on TV between you, smriti irani, arnab etc. I was really surprised to see Smriti Irani give big talks on culture & indian society. What culture is she talking about all her serials have the husbands having 2-3 wife and wife getting married to her own bro-in-law. If we peep into her personal life also she has married her friend's husband, the lady who gave her shelter in this big city. I feel you should make her sit as one of the contestant! Anyways i enjoy your show a lot, parents do have the option to not allow their children to view if they feel an adult discussion is on. You are too good please continue the way you are.I had the opportunity to see you personally in our studio's at Meow 104.8fm you are tooo good looking.

  23. Hi Rajeev....
IM Bhavin, I was one of very few to be shot for an episode of Sach Ka Samna (SKS) on a very 1st day. I was also few of top 10 candidates selected by channel for the show and my extensive search began…. My journey from that day of April till date (though episode is not aired as yet) has been a story by itself. It’s got so many highs and lows. Phew…

The life was never same again after promos hit air…

Every single day im faced with calls, mails, and sms asking How? When? What?... My son thinks I have made fool of myself by choosing to be on show, whereas I keep explaining him, I enjoyed doing it, lure was money, publicity and adventurous fun. But than he has his views which I respect. And what publicity star plus gave me by choosing me in promos. Even on your very blog im there in 2nd advertisement... Lolz...

Well to be honest, for me it’s been very easy to choose path of honesty and walk on it. And those who have no clam about this can very easily face SKS show although few surprises may pop up but than what? I have always believed and lived life on edge with being honest and not bothering results. Most of people I know who have seen me on promo (world wide, as far as West Indies and New Zealand) say I have balls of steel and are been awed with my decision of being on show.

Everyone wants to know just 3 things. 1) How much money did I win? 2) How real is the show? Are answers manipulated? 3) How is my family relation after show? I simply keep laughing at their questions, see their concern and brood over the way each one looks at life.

Rajeev, the show is a smashing hit and u being an anchor have grown lips and bound in your career. I myself was little unwary when knew you will be hosting show but after meeting you and 1st hello, everything fell in pieces. Your boyish charm, honest smile and genuineness of eyes made me very comfortable. All apprehension was lost and show begun. Maintain you’re this very easy urban style and you will have no stops in life.

There have been no issues in my family life as my family knew what’s to expect out of show. I have generated level of confidence and showed them there is nothing wrong to be honest. My son who is unhappy at this moment, will also settle down once the show is aired and will learn to accept truth and deal with life as it unfolds. The show has been a great learning experience and I have grown with it in my life. I wish my youngest sister would have joined in the show, but than she was against this from very beginning.

The other day I went to a courier company to give a parcel and while talking the shop owner came and asked me am I the guy who is being splashed all over SKS hot seat? When I confirmed he was like wows!!!!!!!! And all staff and few next door shop keeper came to look at me, shook hands and asking questions. Man, I was little embarrassed for getting such recognition and later felt happy that people's confidence was restored in show and towards life after talking with me. Here I a common man walked to shop who been on SKS and is talking like normal.

Rajeev, every good and successful thing in India has to undergo stringent test of opposition. People will talk, debate, news etc but than it goes to prove one simple fact... The Success.. And these critics and hypocrites are the parameter to measure the popularity of success. Im hoping and wishing that you will take show to great heights and there will be season 2 and 3 and so on. Star Plus got a money spinner once again after KBC. Cheers my friend and to all at star….....

  26. Dear Rajiv Ji,
As an anchor to aap ka jawab nahi par aap ne seat bahut ghlat chuni hai.Yeh show ek western culture ki copy hai yeh to aap bhi achhi tarah jante hein.Western culture ki philosophy ke anusar"sach"Ki definition hamari gyan va karamendriyon se kiye gaye karmo ka jo bimb hamare chetan, ardhchetan va achetan mind par padta hai wahin tak seemit hai.Lekin indian philosophy ise adhura satya kahti hai,Kyon ke poora satya to kewal parmatma hi hai.jo mind aur wisdom se pare hai.
Iss liye aap ka yeh show indian culture par ek vyang ke siva aur kuch nahi.Kyon paisa kamane ke liye aap bhi itna gir rahe ho aur desh ki janta ko bhi paise ka lobh de kar nanga nachne par majboor kar rahe ho.aap mujhe shaalin pariwar se dikhte hein iss liye mera aap ko advice hai ke yadi aap mere iss sach ka saamna karne ki himmat rakhte hein to mere iss comment ko publically open karein aur iss ke prati dunia walon ko aware karein ke "sach"Kya hai aur hame kis sache marg par chalne ke liye parampita parmatma ne shresht budhi di hai jis se hame "sach'ki rah par chalne ki prerna milti hai aur jis par chal kar Budh ne "sach"ko jaan liya aur phir unho ne dunia walon ko sandesh diya"budham sharnam gachhami"Man ke levl par sach nahi hai. Sach man aur budi dono se pare hai.Iss liye iss show ka koi bhi arth nahi hai.

Kabhee kabhee aisa bhee hota hai, app sach bol rahe ho aur aapke aas paas ke log aapko jhootha bana dein. Ye tab hota hai jab aap sachche hote hue bhee jhoothe ho jate hain. Us waqt wo insaan kitna majboor ho jata hai iska andaaza bhee nahein lagaya jaa sakta. Unme se aisa ek insaan main hoon jisne apni 26 saal ke umar mein wo sabkuch dekh liya jo shayad doosre is umer mein nahein dekh pate. Apni is choti si umar mein maine struggle dekha, parents ki mazboori dekhi, apne aap ko uper uthte dekha aur hamesha sach bolne ke baad bhee doosre ki nazar jhootha bante dekha. But aapke is show ke jariye kayee bigde rishtey dobara fir se ban sakte hain, ya rishtey aur majboot ho sakte hain. Mera maanna hai jo rishtey sach bolne se toot jaye ye unke riston ki kamzori hogi. Sach bolne keliye bahut bada kaleza chahiye aur ye wahi kar sakta hai jisne life ko nazdeek se dekha hai.Maine apni life mein kayee rishton ko tootte hue dekha hai, main jaanta hoon meri kya mazboori thee ki main chahte hue bhee unko rok nahein paya, koshish to bahut kiya .. lekin.. !! Mere jaise kayee log hain jinko zindgee doosra mauka nahein deti apni sachchayee sabke saamne lane ki, unke liye hai aapka show. Jisne Hum jaise logon ke man mein ek ashsha ki kiran jaag uththi. Main aapke show mein akar koi bhee sach bol sakta hoon kiunki maine aajtak koi aisa kaam nahein kiya jisse koi rishta toot jaye, haan galtiyan ki hai lekin usmein bhee kisi aur ko fayda pahunchane keliye. Maine apne hoth tak sill diye kisi keliye, kiunki agar main apne khoye image ko theek karne jaunga to kisi aur ka tamasha ban jayega. Agar mere badnaam hone se ek uska fayda ho jaye to main uske liye 100 baar badnaam hone ko taiyaar hoon. Ab mujhe pata nahein main kitna ghatiya hoon ya kitna achcha lekin bas itna jaanta hoon maine aajtak kisi ka bura nahein kiya. Mere Parents ne mujhe hamesha sikhaya ki hamesha achcha achcha karo hamesha achcha achcha hoga. Aapke is show ki main bahut izzat karta hoon, aur agar mujhe kabhee mauka mila to main jaroor aana chahunga, aur dikhana chahunga chahe kuch bhee ho jaye jhooth hamesha jhooth hota hai aur sach hamesha sach.

I wouldn't comment much on your show, as it has already been widely accepted that it is brilliant. I wouldn't go on to say that it has ended all double standards in society, but then it was never a TV version of Aesop's Fables. :D Entertainment=TRP
However, I must say that you're one of the best actors around, perhaps comparable to the likes of Konkona Sen and Naseeruddin Shah. Aamir was absolutely superb, and I'm sure that Peter Gaya Kaam Se will be even better. You are far too underrated for any intelligent cinema-goers liking, but don't worry. Your day in the Sun will come...
    Love from Singapore :)

  39. Rajiv,
I have the seen the english version of Sach ka samna "the moment of truth". Needless to say its an awesome show.
I would love to see people with more testing relationships to come and face the truth for e.g. people who are engaged etc.
I also think you should wear your humour hat during the show to make the situation lite between the testing questions. It will help the audience to stick to the chair.
Everything else is perfect but just asking questions would not hold audience for long. You need to add more spice (in terms of candidates and questions) and humour (probably in between the questions). Good luck with the show. Best regards Sagar Agarwal (Dubai - Singapore - India)

  47. Hi Rajeev
Gr8 show, gr8 anchoring. Well done..n keep it goin..!!

Rajeev i'm in Melbourne (Australia) n still wait for the watch to tick 9pm so that i can watch this show...Just love it. Sometimes surprises me of the courage that some of the contestants gather to actually speak the truth inspite of knowing everything they've lived for and with might be at stake....its definitely not easy. But i also believe there is always some thing in every persons life that they wud like to keep to themself and may not for any reason reveal it. I guess the hardest thing for the selectors wud b to find that 1 person in a zillion to win that 1 crore...n if that happens it might just create history. For this i really really extend my wishes to its crew in the search for that 1 miracle.

Gud Luck and hope to see more of those exciting episodes. N last but not the least there cud've no better person to host this than u...i love watchin u..just one question wud u be able to take this test if u were asked to and how far do u think u wud b able to go...may u cud try u cud b the miracle indeed..wat say?? ;)

    Best Wishes n Prayers

  48. Rajeev, I have good and not-so-good things to say about your performance in Sach ka Samna.

    First, the good things...
When you started the show, you were crisp, precise, to the point. We thought that was your style, and we loved it.

    Now, the not-so-good things...
Now that you have become more comfortable with the show, it seems your true nature is emerging.

    1) You are too repetitive. The number of times you ask, "Aagey badhey?" And when the contestant replies yes, you ask, "Sure?" and she says yes, and you ask, "Aap ke family se poochthe hain". What the f**k? Not only is it a waste of show-time, it makes you come across as weak and spineless. If contestant replies yes, go to the next question!

    2) You spend too much time warning them about what could happen. Now I know that the format of the show requires you to warn contestants. But you take it to such an extreme level, it makes me lose respect for you. It gives the impression, that YOU personally are so scared of these questions, that you expect the contestant to be scared too. It's like you're projecting YOUR fears on the contestant. Maybe they're not a darpok like you, so don't sweat it so much. Warn them once, then move on...next question!

    3) Flirting with women on the show does not behoove a 'hunk' like you. You're a hunk, you have lots of options with women, many women are crazy about you, you're one of the country's most eligible bachelors...that's the perception about you. But... when we see you openly flirt with a woman it makes us wonder if your hunk-like perception is true...maybe you really DON'T have options with women, maybe you really spend weekends at home masturbating, maybe your standards in women are so low that you will even be lattoo for a lying, manipulating, nymphomaniac college dropout like Zara!

Pardon my harsh words Rajeev, I was just being honest. Fact is you're one of the few INTELLIGENT actors in India, I know from your life that you're a great example of how self-discipline can help you achieve anything, and you're one of India's most talented actors. Just stop being such a wimp on Sach ka samna. Be the man that you really are!

  51. Hi Rajiv,

One of my friends always say, that this is a publicity stunt by the channel. Are the contestants real,
The questions that are asked clearly seem to be specially made for them. Just like tailored made.

One question to Ex airforce man was asked

    अगर हो सके राजीव, तो please reply it on my e-mail

  52. Dear Rajiv,I really like your show. We like your smile. I missed the latest show but I will catch up some day when the program is repeated. I would like to request the prgramme organizers to get the politicians and high profile personalities on the show. Starting from Sonia Gandhi, PM, Laloo, Baba Ram Dev. And yes, Chinese prez and premier. It would be interesting to see them answer the questions. They should not fear coming to the show if they are sincere as they appear and not double standards. Dear Rajeev,
I would like you to congratulate on being such a nice anchor.I have been watching the show right from begining,as an anchor you got better and better as episodes proceeded..I can't forget the moment when you were hosting Luxmi Narayan Tripathi on the show, you were blushing and glimps of shyness on your face when he was interacting with you..
I dont wish to argue about the credibility of the show as i enjoy the show and being a matured person I do learn so many things from the show....
I pay my best wishes to you...

  61. You induced your participants to lie by forcing them to answer 'futuristic' questions, for which nobody can be sure of their own possible actions. Your polygraph test classified these answers as lies, and knocked them out. This was unfair.

    Any comments?

About Me

My photo
Mumbai, Maharashtra, India
I'm Rajiv, an actor from Indian Cinema. I made a beginning with television – which made me better known as Sujal in 'Kahin To Hoga' on Star Plus. I was then involved in various other roles in Time Bomb (an Indian version of the show 24), CID and Left Right Left. I was always a sporty person as a child, so it translated into having more of these action oriented roles. Many of you may know me from last year's film Aamir – my debut, directed by Raj Kumar Gupta. I was very happy with the reviews I received, especially from the film fraternity. Being in the limelight has been a rose with its thorns as well. Hence, all the speculation about personal life, the work and more. So I felt it best to put out a more authentic source of information – my blog and microblog – on twitter!
